Experience defeats youth as James Gonzalez took a victory over Ireland’s Patrick Lehane

Miami, FL– Ireland’s Patrick “The Leech” Lehane (7-3) was outmatched by the experienced American James “The Alley Cat” Gonzalez (11-7) in the main event of Saturday’s CG 2024 May 18: Lehane vs Gonzalez.
Gonzalez defeated Lehane by way of rear naked choke in the second round 1:24.
In the co-main event, Veronica Vargas (4-0) remained undefeated as she took a win over Nadia Vera (5-3-1) and Costa Rica’s Carlos Cordoba (2-4) obtained his first win inside la jaula defeating fighter turned social media influencer Luis Escudero (3-3) by way of technical knockout at 2:37 of the second round.
Vargas vs Vera
For the most part, Vera pinned Vargas towards la jaula, but the Costa Rican was able to land shot in the clinch.
In the second round, Vera was able to connect a shot. Although it was deceiving, Vargas connected heavy shots that damaged Vera and was more active on the offense.
In the end, the judges ruled in favor of Vargas who took the win by way of split decision.
Gonzalez vs Lehane
Gonzalez was too experienced for Lehane, who attempted to outstrike his opponent but the patience from the veteran benefited him.
In the first round, he found the right opportunity to land a shot that took Lehane to the canvass where Gonzalez worked his experience in jiu jitsu.
The black belt was too much for Lehane to figure out and the Irish fighter just didn’t event have an answer.
In the past, Lehane has had much difficulty on the ground and Gonzalez’s game plan of taking the young fighter to the canvass where he found the rear naked choke in the second round for the win.
Lehane was scheduled to fight Ivan Castillo who suffered an injury. Gonzalez took the fight on days notice.
Cordoba vs Escudero
Cordoba was eager to get his first win inside la jaula. He made changes to his training moving to Orlando, Florida to train with Fusion X-Cel Performance with veterans of Mixed Marital Arts.
The work he put for this fight ended up benefiting him, as he was not surprised by the quickness of social media influencer Luis Escudero.
Cordoba allowed Escudero to bring his creativity, but the Costa Rican was patient to get him to the ground where he had full control. In the second round, he worked form mount where he landed hands leaving the referee no option but to step in and stop the fight.
Cordoba made it two wins for Costa Rica.
