Miami, Fl– Stepping in on days’ notice, Roberto Romero (8-3-1) is back in the winning column earning a victory over Japanese veteran Takahiro Ashida (24-15) by way of rear naked choke in the first round.

Romero and Ashida were the main event of the Mexico vs Japan 2 fight card on July 27.

Also, Marcos Lloreda (15-8) defeated Shoma Yamada (3-3) by way of unanimous decision and the young phenom Regina Tarin (4-0) defeated Gisela Luna (5-3) by way of technical knockout in the first round at 4:45.

Romero vs Ashida

Romero stepped in for last year’s Copa Combate winner Ramiro Jimenez, who couldn’t fight travel issues.

Romero, who had been training, but was waiting for an opportunity took the fight and excelled.

There wasn’t much action from Ashida, who has great striking, but Romero didn’t explore the standup game and took the fight to ground where the Japanese has had challenges.

Not much time went by as Romero locked in the rear naked choke at 4:45 to earn a victory. Romero was coming off a defeat by Ireland’s Patrick Lehane back in December.

Lloreda vs Yamada

Lloreda through everything he could to Yamada from flashy elbows and kicks, but his opponent wouldn’t throw in the towel.

In fact, at one point of the fight, a bloodied Yamada called for Lloreda to strike more. There were some shots Yamada landed, however, Lloreda had an overall offense which was too much for the Japanese.

Lloreda took home the victory.

Tarin vs Luna

The youngster dominated right from the start. She didn’t give Luna an opportunity to show her offense. Tarin quickly took her opponent down and instantly got her in trouble. At 1:55 of the first round, the referee stepped in to stop the fight.

Moreover, Juan Puerta defeated Ismael Zamora by rear naked choke in the second round at 1:31.
