New York – September 28, 2017- Combate Americas announced today the participation of the fighter with the most victories in the group, 25-year old John “Sexi Mexi” Castañeda (14-2). Castañeda will be part of Copa Combate, a historic MMA (Mixed Martial Arts) tournament that will get together eight bantamweights (135 pounds). The fighter with three consecutive victories will receive a grand prize of $100,000 next Saturday, November 11th, in Cancun.

Copa Combate will take place on the same day of the 24th Anniversary of UFC 1, which was executively produced by Combate Americas CEO and co-founder of the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC), Campbell McLaren. This historic event started the revolution of combat sports and changed the martial arts world forever.

Castañeda, from Mankato, Minnesota, will enter Combate Americas’ La Jaula (the cage) with a nine-fight win streak since May 2015, which carried on until August 1st of this year when he gave a dominant performance and defeated Cheyden Leialoha by unanimous decision during The Contender Series, an event headed by UFC President, Dana White.

“We are excited to welcome John Castaneda back to Combate Americas, where he has amassed the most wins of any fighter in our young, but fast-growing organization, and delivered some of the most memorable moments ever inside La Jaula with his explosive fighting style and lethal knockout power,” said McLaren.

After his recent victory, Castañeda signed a new and exclusive contract for multiple fights with Combate Americas, which was the first organization to give him national exposure during his NBC Universo debut in Las Vegas, Nevada, on September 17, 2015. Castañeda became an immediate success, defeating Justin Governale by unanimous decision.

During his last appearance inside La Jaula on May 5th, 2107, Castañeda applied a lethal technical knockout during the second round (0:42) to UFC veteran Chris “The Real Deal” Beal.

The remaining seven Copa Combate fighters will be announced soon, and will hail from different locations in Latin America, Spain and the United States. This will be the first time in history that fighters will represent their respective countries in a quest for glory.

Fighters will be divided into four brackets, and the top 4 will be given seeded positions, based on their worldwide rankings. The opponents of the four fighters will be determined by draw.
