The Giant Killer: Giovanni “Bam Bam” Sarran
March 17, 2020
Combate Americas has its own David and Goliath legend.
Born in California, Giovanni “Bam Bam” Sarran debuted in Combate Americas at the Combate Stockton event, in May 2019.
His opponent was the Mexican Eduardo “Boogeyman” Perez, who was on a six fight-win streak (four amateur and two pro), and who also had a six-inch, 46-pound advantage over Sarran.

“Bam Bam’s” height and weight disadvantage were on full display at the weigh-ins. They were hard to ignore, and Perez’s victory seemed likely.
The beginning of the fight went as expected. Perez was aggressive, but Sarran was able to withstand the storm and brought the fight to the ground. To the fans’ delight, Sarran won via a “North-South Choke” in the second round.
But Sarran was not satisfied with slaying only one giant.
Sarran’s next opponent was the aptly named Mexican fighter, Alejandro “Goliath” Solórzano, with six straight wins, and who would be fighting in his own backyard, Guadalajara. Not to mention, he had 13 inches on Sarran.
The fight was epic. Sarran fought “Goliath” hard, holding nothing back and refusing to succumb to any attack. Sarran lost via unanimous decision, but many believed he had won.

Win or lose, “Bam Bam” will offer a great show in his next fight.
