Miami, FL– Nicaragua’s Leonardo “Chimmy” Morales (10-5) welcomes John “Hollywood” Sweeney (8-3) to la jaula and Mexico’s Jair “El Lupe” Perez returns to action against newcomer Shaheen Santana in a featherweight clash at the upcoming CG2021 October 1 fight card.

Also, on the card Timothy Cuamba meets Arizona’s Ivan Tena also in a featherweight fight.

In the main event, Morales meets in Sweeney’s Combate Global debut.

Morales vs Sweeney

Morales is coming off a majority decision defeat by the hands of Jose Estrada back in July.

To change things up his training, Morales has been honing his skills in Arizona with Ultimate Kombat Fitness (UKF) with the likes of Combate’s Dumar Roa and MMA veteran turned coach Javier Torres.

On the contrary, Sweeney is preparing for his Combate debut at Upstate Karate in South Carolina home to MMA veteran Stephen “Wonderboy” Thompson.

Morales has faced notable names like Yair Rodriguez and a victory over Marcus Brimage in Nicaragua. A major fan of boxing legend Alexis Arguello, he plans on bringing the action with his hands as he counts on five knockout victories. However, training at UKF he might feel a lot more comfortable to display his ground game.

Meanwhile, Sweeney has a strong wrestling background. In fact, he has been hitting the mats since he was in seventh grade thanks to his father’s motivation. He is a complete fighter with background in Karate and a purple belt in jiu jitsu.

Both men plan to deliver fireworks. Anticipate for both warriors to test each other with their fists and kicks. Depending on who holds the wheel with this fight, lookout for Sweeney to raise the bar and put on a wrestling clinic in search of a submission victory.

As for Morales, he must play the distance. He has to strike and move; he can’t allow Sweeney to get in the pocket where he can use his wrestling. Morales needs to use effective takedown defense to send Sweeney a message.

As for Sweeney, who earned a victory in July, he must pressure Morales to find an opening where he can his foe down. Sweeney counts on seven Knockout and Technical knockout victories.

Perez vs Santana

Fresh off his victory in July against Gabe Barletta, Perez returns to la jaula for the second time this year, when he meets Santana, who trains out of Miami’s MMA Masters and is a submission artist counting on five submission victories. His last fight was November when he competed in the Contender’s series. He lost the bout via submission.

Expect Perez, who has three submission victories in his career, to do his best to keep the fight standing. He has good takedown defense as he displayed it against Barletta, an expert in wrestling. Takedown defense would be key against Santana who will attempt to search for an early takedown if the striking doesn’t go his way. IF Perez maintains the fight standing, it could be a frustrating night for Santana.

Cuamba vs Tena

Tena makes his Combate Global return since his last competed inside la jaula in 2019. Meanwhile, Cuamba has competed two times this year both wins by unanimous decision, while Tena fought in March defeating his opponent by TKO.

These young fighters are putting their undefeated record on the line and will fight hard to maintain the goose egg.

Cuamba has strong striking skills expect him to trade blows with Tena to give fans a back-and-forth fight. Cuamba trains with BK MMA where wrestling expert and mma fighter Bubba Jenkins provides insight into his training. Tena, a freestyle fighter, trains out of MMALAB, the home to former champion Ben Henderson and Sean O’Mailey.

This could potentially be the fight of the night.
