Leonardo “Chimmy” Morales returns to la jaula, but John Sweeney poses a major threat
September 22, 2021
Miami, FL– Nicaragua’s Leonardo “Chimmy” Morales (10-5) returns to action in search of his first victory inside la jaula, but American John Sweeney’s (8-3) all around fighting skills can pose a danger.
Both men meet in a 135-pound battle at the upcoming CG2021 October 1 fight card.
Morales made his debut against the charismatic Jose “Froggy” Estrada in July where he lost by majority decision.
Combate Global’s CEO Campbell McLaren was impressed with Morales’ performance, so much so he earned another shot inside la jaula.
To change things up his training, Morales has been honing his skills in Arizona with Ultimate Kombat Fitness (UKF) with the likes of Combate’s Dumar Roa and MMA veteran turned coach Javier Torres.
On the contrary, Sweeney is preparing for his Combate debut at Upstate Karate in South Carolina home to MMA veteran Stephen “Wonderboy” Thompson.
Morales has faced notable names like Yair Rodriguez and a victory over Marcus Brimage in Nicaragua. A major fan of boxing legend Alexis Arguello, he plans on bringing the action with his hands as he counts on five knockout victories. However, training at UKF he might feel a lot more comfortable to display his ground game.
Meanwhile, Sweeney has a strong wrestling background. In fact, he has been hitting the mats since he was in seventh grade thanks to his father’s motivation. He is a complete fighter with background in Karate and a purple belt in jiu jitsu.
Both men plan to deliver fireworks. Anticipate for both warriors to test each other with their fists and kicks. Depending on who holds the wheel with this fight, lookout for Sweeney to raise the bar and put on a wrestling clinic in search of a submission victory.
As for Morales, he must play the distance. He has to strike and move; he can’t allow Sweeney to get in the pocket where he can use his wrestling. Morales needs to use effective takedown defense to send Sweeney a message.
As for Sweeney, who earned a victory in July, he must pressure Morales to find an opening where he can his foe down. Sweeney counts on seven Knockout and Technical knockout victories.
Combate Global fans can expect a treat with both fighters delivering a slugfest and highlight reel if both warriors keep the fight standing.
