Less than four years after beginning her professional Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) career, Paulina Vargas (4-0) is currently one of the best fighters in Latin America. Next Friday, she will have an opportunity to win her second-straight victory in Combate Americas when she faces Desiree Yanez (4-1) on the «TS-1 Promotions presents: Combate Americas Hidalgo» preliminary card.

Born in San José de Gracias, Michoacán, Mexico, Vargas is one of Combate Americas’ rising stars. The 30-year-old fighter trains at Lobo Gym, under Luis Grasso, alongside renowned fighters Irene Aldana and Alexa Grasso (Grasso’s daughter). She also trains in Jiu Jitsu with MMA fighter, Diego Lopez.

Vargas is unbeaten in four professional bouts, where she has finished each and every one of her opponents by technical knockout in the second round. The Mexican fighter came to Combate Americas last March to face Ere Ordonez in Combate Americas: Mexico vs. Spain in a ferocious fight.

Despite being knocked down several times due to Ordoñez’s heavy hands, Vargas was able to stay afloat by staying focused and connecting straight and over right hands. Finally, Vargas was able to get Ordonez in danger and capitalized with strikes until the referee stopped the fight. With the victory, Vargas achieved her second victory over Ordonez and a fourth victory in her undefeated career.

Paulina Vargas is ranked as the 3rd best pound-for-pound fighter in Mexico and number 12 in the Latin America pound-for-pound ranks. She will be facing Yanez, an american fighter, who is first in Texas’s pound-for-pound women rankings and who will have the support of the local fans. Currently, Yanez is on a three fight winning-streak and has fought twice so far this year, in direct contrast with Vargas who has competed only once a year since her professional debut.

With Mexico in her heart, Vargas feels proud to represent her country. It is the first time she will face an opponent that is not Mexican, and the first time that she will fight outside her homeland.

“This Friday, June 21, I will be back in an international fight. It fills me with pride, and I am very excited to represent Mexico for the first time,” said the Michoacán native. “I will fight in ‘La Jaula’ of Combate Americas in Hidalgo, Texas, many thanks to all who support my career!”
