October 6, 2022
Miami, FL– Combate Global’s bantamweight Champion David Martinez (8-1) will defend his title against Axel Osuna (5-1) in the main event of Combate Global World Bantamweight Championship.
Also, in the co-main event, Spain’s Aitana Alvarez (2-3) meets Gillian “Valkyrie” Noll (2-2) in a flyweight fight.
The event streams live on Paramount + (10:30 p.m. ET) from Miami, FL on Friday, October 7, 2020.
Martinez vs Osuna
Martinez last competed in May and defeated Arturo Vergara by way of knockout; however, his title wasn’t on the line. This will be his first title defense since winning the gold last year after winning in an eight-man one-night tournament. He defeated Francisco Rivera Jr. in the finals by way of TKO in the second round.
The Bonebreakers fighter has been with Combate Global since 2018 and nearly all of his wins have come by way of stoppage.
But, Osuna could be his toughest challenge yet because where the challenger has the upper edge is on the ground. Out of the five victories in his career, three have been by way of submission.
Osuna, who has been training in Las Vegas, defeated the former undefeated David Solorzano to obtain a title shot. What sets Osuna apart from Martinez’s previous opponents is that he can keep up with his boxing. Osuna is a golden glove winner and has shown how smooth he transitions from his standup game to the ground.
If this fight remains on the feet, both men will be strategically attacking working the body with fast combinations. Osuna will keep up with Martinez in he stand up game. However, if Osuna has an extra arsenal where he feels complacent and that is his jiu jitsu game, which could test Martinez since he hasn’t had an experienced ground game fighter like Osuna. But, Martinez’s kicks could be the difference in the standup game.
Alvarez vs Noll
Spain’s Alvarez looked like a brand new fighter when she defeated Tyler Schaefer in August winning by technical knockout in the second round. She looked resilient and consistent outclassing her opponent who is known for her striking.
It’s a great way to bounce back after suffering three losses in a row. But now she has a chance to continue her winning ways, but Noll has been on a tear herself.
She defeated Jennifer Trioreau by way of knockout in the second round in June. The Warrior Camp fighter will be making her third appearance inside la jaula. She has a background in wrestling but has shown to improve her striking.
Both women will keep this fight standing, which should make for an exciting fight. However, in case of an emergency, Noll has her wrestling and could experiment with her jiu jitsu game.
