Preview CG 2023 July 1: Pace vs Garcia
June 28, 2023
Miami, FL– The powerhouse Jimmie “jimbo Slice” Pace Jr. (2-0) returns to action against kickboxer Boris Garcia (2-1) in the main event for CG 2023 July 1: Pace vs Garcia this Saturday.
Also, Miami’s Lupe Mateo (0-1) looks for her first victory against the debut of Marina Rodriguez (0-0) and Diego Ortiz (10-4) meets the return of Elias Garcia (8-2) in a flyweight fight.
Pace vs Garcia
As a professional, Pace has only been in action for less than six minutes. His first fight against Albert Gonzalez ended at one minute of the first round and in March he submitted Jose Matuz in 4:36 of the first chapter.
The GOAT shed Academy fighter looks to keep himself undefeated inside la jaula as strength has yet to be tested.
But Garcia is not impressed and counts on two wins by way of stoppage. The Spaniard will be fighting in the United States for the first time and trains out of the Barcelona Team. He last competed in 2021 and has been polishing his skills.
Pace has yet to enter the second round. If Garcia, can sustain the onslaught from Pace in the first round, which could test his stamina, the man from Spain can have a chance. Footwork and keeping Pace away will be a key for Garcia. As for Pace, if he is able to capitalize right from the start and take his opponent on the canvass and work the ground and pound, then it could be a quick night.
Mateo vs Rodriguez
After suffering a loss to Mariah Castro last August, Mateo will face an opponent with similar skills. In her professional debut, Mateo went toe-to-toe with Castro working her boxing but the takedown were the difference in the fight, which cost her the fight.
The Freedom Fighter martial artist said she has worked on her flaws to feel more like a well-rounded fighter.
Unlike Mateo, Rodriguez will be under the bright lights making her debut in la jaula, which could cause some nerves to get in the way.
The SUTEMI MMA fighter counts on boxing skills which is a perfect match in her debut. However, she is more of the counter puncher than the aggressor.
This fight is sure to deliver as Mateo is known to be on the offense and has a lot of gas in the tank. However, with Rodriguez counter punching, it could cause Mateo to slow down or change levels.
This could be a fight of the night contender.
Garcia vs Ortiz
Undefeated in la jaula, Garcia plans on continuing his winning streak. He defeated Ivan Lopez by submission in 2021 and Leandro Soares by unanimous decision in September.
Garcia who trains with the Team Oyama, but used to train at Roufussport MMA Academy, counts on heavy striking and the cousin of mixed martial arts stars Anthony and Sergio Pettis. He has been training since he left high school. Training with Team Oyama has built his confidence.
As for Ortiz, the man from Guatemala, has been training with Mexico’s ENTRAM gym, home to several top fighters.
Ortiz counts on a heavy background with jiu jitsu as he has a brown belt and has been catch wrestling for quiet sometime.
Look for Garcia’s experience come into plays; however, Ortiz has a lot to prove and wants to win one for Guatemala, a central American country that hasn’t had any top stars in mma.
