September 4, 2019
Mexicali will witness a historic duel, where Rafa “Gifted” Garcia (10-0) and Erick “Ghost Pepper” Gonzalez (10-3) will face each other to be the first Combate Americas’ Lightweight Champion, on Friday, September 20th at the Auditorio del Estado.
Both fighters have strong cases as to why they deserve the opportunity to fight for the belt after dominating the 155-pound division.
Erick Gonzalez of Redondo Beach, California, began his career in Combate Americas in 2016, when he defeated Victor Martinez by Split Decision. From then on, it has been all successes for the 27-year-old fighter.
Since then, Gonzalez has a 6-1 record as a lightweight for Combate Americas. His only defeat was against Danny Ramirez in 2017, and the following year Gonzalez was able to avenge the defeat with a dominant TKO in the first round.
Currently, “Ghost Pepper” is on a streak of four straight wins at 155 pounds, dispatching tough rivals like Won Sik Park, Alejandro “Pato” Martinez and Marco Antonio Elpidio.
The Combate Americas event in Mexicali will be broadcast live on Friday, September 20, on U.S. television in Spanish on Univision (12 a.m. ET / PT) and TUDN (12 a.m. ET / 9 p.m. PT).
