Eduardo “Cyborg” Torres (9-0), is one of two Chilean fighters who will represent his country next Friday in Combate Peru, The first Combate Americas‘ event in South America, and until this moment in his professional career, we could say that he is a hard nut to crack.

All fighters think the same, there is nothing better than maintaining an undefeated record, especially when facing fighters at a higher level. Torres, who began his professional career in 2015, has managed to maintain an immaculate record: nine-wins with zero defeats.

After 3 years fighting in Chile and Brazil, Torres managed to accumulate an 8-0 mark including three-wins by submission and one by technical knockout. He drew attention abroad and signed with Combate Americas along with one of his coaches from the Equipo Weichafe and a pioneer of Chile’s MMA, Pablo Villaseca.

The 24-year-old’s arrival in Combate Americas was an absolute boom, as he took the bantamweight division by surprise by getting a victory over Kevin Amador in Combate 23. After dominating during the first two rounds of the fight using his range and excellent striking, Torres continued to be the aggressor throughout the third round and managed to connect with knees and punches until Amador tapped out due to strikes at 1: 27 of the round.

Adding one more victory to his unbeaten record, the rivalry between Chile and Peru will be reflected once again when Torres faces Rodrigo “El Gato Loco” Vera (8-0-1), a young fighter who is making his Combate Americas’ debut.

“For me, I’m proud to represent my country,” said Torres to Combate Americas. “Carrying it on my back, gives me strength, motivates me to keep going, and I will turn it into a war that Friday”.

Vera, who at 23 has a similar record to Torres, started as an amateur fighter 4 years ago. He managed to pile up 8-victories in a row, knocking out 5 rivals, three of them in the first round. He is a super explosive fighter with excellent striking and good submission techniques.

“I’m not afraid of going to the ground with him,” Torres said.  “I can give him a battle on the ground as on the feet, I will do whatever is necessary.”

Throughout his career, Torres has not yet faced an opponent with a similar record to his and much less with Vera‘s ground and striking credentials, so this will be his biggest test so far.

Who will keep their undefeated record? That’s something we will have to wait to see inside “La Jaula”.

Combate Peru will take place at Coliseo Manuel Bonilla in Lima, Peru, and will be broadcast exclusively in English in the United States and Canada on DAZN(12am E, 11pm C, 9pm PAC), as well as on Univision (12am E, 11pm C) and on Univisión Deportes (12am E, 11pm C, 9pm PAC).
