Alitzel Mariscal Will Defend Mexico’s Flag in Combate Peru
May 17, 2019
Rising star Alitzel Mariscal (2-0) has an important task ahead of her when she enters “La Jaula” later this month. She will have to represent Mexico against Maria Buzaglo ( 1-1) in the upcoming historic event in Peru.
Combate Peru will take place at Coliseo Manuel Bonilla in Lima, Peru. The event will be broadcast exclusively in English in the United States and Canada on DAZN (12am E, 11pm C, 9pm PAC), as well as on Univision (12am E, 11pm C) and on Univisión Deportes (12am E, 11pm C, 9pm PAC).
It’s been less than a year since Alitzel Mariscal was discovered by Combate Americas and made her MMA debut as a professional, but the Mexican fighter has already become a phenomenon throughout Latin America and United States, due to her charisma, talent and fighting style. At only 20 years old, Mariscal has already shown extraordinary composure inside “La Jaula,” particularly in her Combate Americas‘ debut defeating Brenda Enriquez by unanimous decision in Combate 27.

Expectations for Mariscal were high, but she exceeded them when she fought for Mexico in Combate Americas: Mexico vs. Spain, in Guadalajara, Mexico. She defeated Vanessa Rico via TKO in less than four minutes. Rico was a well-rounded and more experienced fighter with a 3-4 record.
Mariscal, born in Zapopan, Jalisco, Mexico, has competed in two Combate America’s events in her own country, but now, the Aztec fighter will have to defend her Mexican pride away from home. Buzaglo, Mariscal‘s upcoming opponent, is a promising Peruvian fighter, and a possible leader in her division in Combate Americas; although, her debut in “La Jaula” did not go as expected. Buzaglo was defeated by Corina Herrera via second-round submission, losing for the first time in her MMA career.
A victory in Peru would be important for the careers of both of these fighters. Mariscal wants not only to maintain her undefeated record, but also to prove that she can score a victory for Mexico even on foreign soil. Buzaglo, on the other hand, is looking for her first win in Combate Americas and to show that she is a force to be reckoned with.
