Miami, FL<\/strong>-Cuban American Angel \u201cThe Salsa King\u201d Alvarez<\/a> kicked-off the 2022 Combate Global season with a knockout win, but now he is itching to get a shot at the gold.<\/p>\n

Alvarez defeated Daniel Sanchez<\/a> by knockout in the second round last week on the first fight card of the year.<\/p>\n

This win brings the Cuban born\u2019s undefeated streak to five. The majority of the wins have been by way of knockout. Alvarez is on a star trajectory as he continues to put on performances that leave fans at the edge of their seats as his fights could end in an instant with his strong hands.<\/p>\n

For this last fight, Alvarez trained at Sanford MMA, a powerhouse of fighters out of Deerfield Beach, Florida, under the guidance of Henri Hooft, Greg Jones, and Kami Barzini.<\/p>\n

\u201cI changed gyms in late October. The most important lesson I have learned at Sanford MMA is that there are levels to this game and where I currently am compared to some of the best in the world. I realized I could develop so much more as I continue to learn from all the people there,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

The most important skill Alvarez has learned during his time at Sanford MMA is \u201cstaying confident and precise throughout the fight. Staying calm is such an important thing in this sport.\u201d<\/p>\n

Another skill Alvarez has in his arsenal is his powerful left hand, the nail in the coffin in what was already a dominant performance.<\/p>\n

\u201cI went in with the mentality of going for the knockout, and after spending some time with my opponent in the opening minutes, I realized he was leaving an opening,\u201d he said. \u201cI just did not know which round it would happen. I saw other holes in his game like I could have easily taken the fight to the ground through a Judo throw, but I decided against it because I noticed how uncomfortable he was standing with me. I wanted him to stay in deep waters.\u201d<\/p>\n

Alvarez hopes to have a busy year as he tries to climb Combate Global\u2019s stacked lightweight division.<\/p>\n

\u201cI feel good already and ready to fight. Since my fight, I have taken four days off, but I got back in the gym already. Hopefully, I can get back inside la Jaula in April. I know there are a lot of shows coming up. I don\u2019t have anyone specific in mind, but anyone can get it, doesn’t matter who. I\u2019m ready for anybody and any challenge. I could see myself by the end of the year either fighting in Copa Combate or for the lightweight title\u201d<\/p>\n
